Pfizer: Study of Access to Healthcare

Study of Access to Healthcare for Low Income Populations

Collaboration aims to support the development of innovative healthcare solutions in China that are sustainable, socially responsible, and financially viable.

Pfizer Inc and PlaNet Finance announced on March 20, 2009 that they would team up to conduct in-depth research on the healthcare needs of the working poor in China. The household-level research, conducted by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, was designed by the team to examine the availability and existing sources of medicines, patient purchasing patterns, and the level of access to medical services.

The Chinese Ministry of Health recently released the results of its 4th National Health Survey, an extensive document covering healthcare patterns across the country. The Pfizer and PlaNet Finance collaboration is designed to solicit additional information from low-income populations in China to complement existing and planned government efforts to improve healthcare.

Pfizer’s Global Access mission in China is to understand the unique needs of people in the lower economic sectors and partner with local healthcare providers, academics, key stakeholders and the government in order to develop solutions that are relevant and sustainable.

The three parties look forward to sharing the results of this research with the Chinese government, in order to maximize its impact and reach throughout the country.
