On June 10th in Madagascar, PlaNet Finance launched the Babeo project, financed by the European Union and run in partnership with the NGO C-for-C, Aina and Tabita association.

In Madagascar, a high percentage of women work to provide for the needs of their families. Among them, 64% have developed a small revenue-generating activity, unfortunately too often in the informal sector. Furthermore, many of these women have children younger than 5 years of age which they are obliged to keep with them while they work.

Babeo has three main objectives :

PlaNet Finance kicks off loan program under second Tongwei project in Gansu Province

While the weather may be warming up here in Beijing, Tongwei County is still well into winter. Cold temperatures and a recent dumping of snow greeted our PlaNet Finance team upon arrival in Gansu Province earlier this week and presented us with some road navigation challenges during the mission.

MicroCred, one of PlaNet Finance Group’s social businesses, recently announced their annual results for 2010. MicroCred is an investment company that acquires shares of microfinance banks worldwide through either greenfield investments or acquisitions of existing institutions. At present, MicroCred is active in five countries: Madagascar, China, Senegal, Nigeria and the Ivory Coast.
