Senior Microfinance Expert
Reporting Line: Christian Sinobas, Business Line Manager Downscaling & Commercial Microfinance (World)
Location: The position will be based in Beijing, with short term trips around China in order to coordinate programs and/or deliver TA.
Principal skills and experiences needed:
- Strong microfinance experience in China and ability to work in an international environment
- Very good analytical skills, ability to enter into technical details of microfinance operations
- Good consulting experience with banks and/or cooperatives
- Strong project management experience
- Financial background, especially with retail, SME or consumer finance experience
- Socially responsible person with professional and career oriented attitude
Main responsibilities:
- Manage a local consulting team and coordinate projects with international consultants and PlaNet Finance Paris
- Design and follow up of consulting road mapsManage bank downscaling programs in China in coordination with international experts
- Manage and coordinate local team on the devise and the implementation of credit policies and procedures, provide guidelines for the development of new loan products, lead the recruitment of loan officers for our banking clients
- Design and lead field-based and formal training of new loan officers in individual credit methodology, devise tools to monitor loan officer performance and manage their implementation by local team
- Provide regular reports to Planet Finance head office and bank management; identify possibilities of growth for PlaNet finance activities in China
- Work with the Downscaling Business Line Manager on knowledge management
- Participate to the strategic meetings of PlaNet Finance worldwide and participate to the decision making of the institution
- Represent PlaNet Finance Advisory Services in finance and microfinance events in China.
Profile
- International Master degree in finance, banking and/or development economics
- Prior work experience in Microfinance SME and/or banking, at least 4 years
- Strong credit and financial analysis experience (senior position)
- Experience in designing and leading trainings
- Good communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
- Confident, self-starter able to work independently
- Understanding of China Business Culture
- Strong management and coordination abilities
- Ability to work under pressure
- Good computer skills: Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and Powerpoint

Career plan
The position is clearly a long term contract with career perspective within PlaNet Finance Group.
The senior consultant will be to be defined between:
- Technical expert. With a specific knowledge in HR, IT, Risk, etc. A consultant can become a technical expert of PlaNet Finance, working worldwide in short term missions in this field of expertise.
- Project manager. With a global understanding of microfinance and consulting, the consultant will lead its own projects in China, mainly downscaling or greenfielding (2 or 3 years contracts, full time team of 4 consultants + part time experts to be managed).
In both cases the consultant will participate to trainings and workshops within and outside PlaNet Finance in order to improve his technical and/or management skills. The consultant will also be invited in Paris (HQ) for part of the training activities.

Junior Microfinance Expert
Term: At least 1 year including a trial period; contract may be renewed depending on performance

Profile/Skills:
- Must be an extremely movtivated, independent, and professional individual dedicated to the development of microfinance in China
- Advanced degree in banking, finance, and/or development economics
- Prior experience in microfinance and/or banking (individual lending methodology) high desirable; knowledge of SME lending an advantage
- Strong logical and financial analysis skills
- Training and/or capacity building and/or consulting experience would be desirable
- Good communication, interpersonal presentation and writing skills
- Confident, self-starter, open-minded, able to work with minimal guidance
- Highly organized
- Ability to work under pressure
- Willing and able to travel and live in different areas, inclusing rural areas for extended periods of time
- Advanced computer skills: Microsoft Office applications inclusing Word, Excel, Powerpoint
- Languages: must be fluent (native) in Chinese; conversational English and at least basic writing and translation skills
Responsibilities:
As a local consultant, you will provide technical and practical knowledge in microfinance, such as:
Technical Assistance in Microfinance
- Assisting to conduct feasibility research for establishing microfinance programs and institutions
- Assisting to design and develop microfinance lending methodologies and procedures appropriate to the local context
- Assisting to design training workshops and relevant training materials for all kinds of microfinance participants
- Assisting to provide technical guidance regarding the implementation of microfinance activities
- Conducting on-site coaching, consulting and advising for microfinance programs and institutions
- Providing support to international and domestic experts
Institutional Development
- Providing support in designing project proposals involving microfinance
- Assisting in project implementation
- Communications and Marketing
- Conducting marketing and promotion for PlaNet Finance China's business lines
- Engaging in outreach to various stakeholders, including (but not limited to) microfinance institutions, public and private donors or investors, government authorities, microfinance networks, media and all kinds of participants within the microfinance sector
- Maintaining the relationship with partners, customes, and others

Job Summary
Planet Finance requires an experienced SPSS Statistical Analyst to work alongside our microfinance consultants and conduct analysis of existing data extracts. The expert will produce detailed statistical analysis for surveys conducted on rural populations in China.
Duties and Responsibilities As a Data Analysis Expert, the consultant will:
- Run SPSS statistical software program on survey results from impact study
- Provide quantitative results and insight based on data
Skills & Experience
- Trained in Statistics, Math and/or Computer Sciences
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- Technical expertise of SPSS and Excel
- Ability to interpret data results
- Able to work independently or in a team
