Second Round of Baseline Studies Conducted in Tongwei

March 10, 2011

As lending activities in the Tongwei II project begin, Deputy Project Manager Alison Schmidt will be posting project updates to the general public in the PFC News & Events stream. Stay tuned for more!

On February 26th and 27th, PlaNet Finance China’s project team conducted thirty baseline studies in two project villages in Tongwei County, Gansu as part of the Tongwei II: From Rural Isolation to Market Integration project. The two villages are nestled into the terraced hills about an hour’s drive north of the county town of Tongwei.  Official data reports indicate that the local annual per capita income hovers around RMB 1,750[1]

PFC is currently analyzing the gathered data; preliminary results will be revealed in subsequent postings. The results will serve both as a means to identify the villages’ current economic, social, and environmental situations and as the base of comparison for the final impact analysis upon the project’s conclusion in 2013. This mission follows the first phase of baseline studies conducted back in November 2010 in two other neighboring villages.
